Why Your Docking Station Isn’t Working: Thunderbolt USB-C vs. USB-C with USB 3.1

If your docking station isn't charging your laptop or displaying video, the problem might be the type of USB-C port you're using.

Thunderbolt USB-C

  • Works with power delivery, video output, and USB port extensions (all at once).
  • Supports high-speed data transfer and multiple external monitors.

USB-C with USB 3.1/3.2

  • Can transfer files and charge, but may not handle video output or multiple functions simultaneously.

If your dock isn’t working correctly, check if your USB-C port supports Thunderbolt for full functionality.
